Glee

Nov. 11th, 2009 | 02:23 pm
mood: bored bored

Glee's on tonight!  Yay for me!  I get to watch the singing and the dancing and the wonderfulness, and hopefully see more Puckleberry than Rachel/Finn, although I'm sure I'm going to be dissappointed on that end.

On another note, really starting to follow the Tina/Artie story line, as well as the pentagle going on with Finn/Rachel/Puck/Quinn/ and the baby.  That should really make things interesting.

Oh, and I've had 2 of my 4 classes cancelled today, and I'm sitting around waiting for an advising appointment. =P

After this, I'm gonna go home and (hopefully) download some stuff and pack up my sewing machine.  Stacy apparently can't watch where she's walking and tripped on the case in the basement and threw a hissy fit over it this morning.  It was pretty funny.

Nanowrimo Outline Ideas

Nov. 7th, 2009 | 01:35 pm
mood: productive productive
music: Johnnys playlist

So I have 2 ways to do this. Firstly, I could create a Sailor Moon/Gundam Wing Crossover.  It's been done many, many times, but I think if I am careful about what I like and dislike in the fics I've read, I can make it mildly original.

My other option is kind of off the wall.  Harry Potter/ Gundam Wing.  It would be Hermione centric, but mostly muggleborn centric, creating a vast difference between the muggle world and the wizarding.  I was contemplating it last night, and I thought it would be interesting to see things through the eyes of a muggleborn.  How would wizards react to the muggle world if they had ignored it to the point that it had become such a massive force?

Here's what I would not do:
Make Hermione or Harry a gundam pilot.
Make any of the Hogwarts students cooler than the five, because let's face it, no one is.

What I would do:
Hermione is absolutely brilliant.  We all know this.  Let's let her be one of the Doctors' proteges.  She could be the "Mr. Universe" if you will for the GP on earth.  Her intel that she sends out to the doctors allows the missions and machines to run smoother.  She doesn't fly, but she knows the mechanical structure of and interior of the gundams as if they were one of her books.  She's the brainchild behind some of the innovations to Deathscythe and Shenlong.

I repeat:  She's not a pilot.  She's kind of like a less psycho version of Marimeia.

Whaddya think?

Need Nanowrimo ideas!

Nov. 4th, 2009 | 10:13 pm

Okay, so every year I try to write a 100,000 word novel in November. Unfortunately, time got away from me, so nothing is coming to my head. I have no character outlines, no dialog maps, nothing. This leaves me with only one choice. Fanfiction. I haven't written fanfiction in years! I have no clue where to start!

The fandoms I know best are
Harry Potter
Sailor Moon
Gundam Wing
Yoroden Samurai Troopers
Gargoyles
Glee

The fandoms I could research and fudge my way through are
Gokusen
NCIS
Noein
Jaz Parks
Elemental Masters by Mercedes Lackey
Stargate- I know SG-1 fairly well, but I'm still watching SGA. I'm not even bothering with Universe yet
X-Men
Justice League

Somebody give me some plot bunnies!

And the Winner is...

Oct. 5th, 2009 | 01:38 pm
mood: cranky cranky

Mkay, so I was all set to go to my Oral Performance class today because I have missed the past two class sessions.  I finally go and get ready to sit down when I notice something odd.

There's no one in the classroom. It's a minute to start, and I'm like, "wtf?".  Well, I go check my school email finally (I can't always get it to load at home) and class is friggen cancelled.  My life sucks sometimes.

So instead of moping about, I think I'm going to head to Barnes and Noble and sit in the stacks and read.  I haven't done that in a while.  And then, at 3, I'm going to listen to my parents on the radio, go to my other class, and then try to avoid the  "what are you going to do with your life?" talk that my parents wish to have with me.  They don't seem to remember already having this conversation with me weeks prior, and are trying to push me back into journalism again.  I say no! I detest journalism with an undying passion, mostly because the writing style is sophomoric and utterly boring.

I will get my degree in communications and design sparklies for JE boys.  Because let's face it, sparklies are cool.

music: V6- Honeybeat

So today was my first day back after a three week break, and it was awesome!  I got to see alot of friends I haven't seen all summer, and ran into others with whom I've wanted to hang out, but haven't found the time.  Plus, my spanish teacher is totally awesome!

My problem will be remembering that it's "si" in spanish and not "hai".  Maybe I should change my playlist from jpop to spanish and english...

...Nah...

So yeah, awesome first day, and the rents are starting a radio show!

This new obsession

Jul. 15th, 2009 | 12:47 am

So I've been sewing for 2 days non stop, and have finished a dress and some basic embroidery.  I'm still working on the hand sewing thing, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

Tomorrow's my stat midterm 2, so I gotta stop procrastinating and study for that.

But I'm not.

I'm watching "Oishii Proposal".  I finished "Beautiful Life" finally, and I watched "Pretty Girls".  I was thoroughly disappointed in the ending.  I understand that Hana was a good person and all, but doesn't the unselfish one deserve the guy?

The Facts of Life

May. 30th, 2009 | 04:14 pm

The economy sucks.  We all know it, we all live it, and we're all ready to give the housing market and these corporations borrowing money from the government a swift kick in the rear.  As it stands, the school I'm going to doesn't offer my dream job as an undergraduate major.  I'd have to apply for grad school, and should I get in, have another four years of school and loans to deal with.

Therefore, I have made the decision to just get my undergrad in Communications, because it will keep my job opportunities open farther than a costume design degree would, and should I ever choose to get into the costume field, I can always go back to school after I've entered the work force and am making enough money to pay off the loans I already have.

I figured that the loans already signed in my name are rather daunting, along with the past due bills the school still has under my id number, and doubling that amount in a competitive, shrinking job market was not in my best interests.  Luckily, I like communications, so I won't hate whatever job I end up getting.

So here's to living life as things get thrown at me!

Family

May. 19th, 2009 | 10:40 pm
mood: mischievous mischievous

So my brother is matriculating tomorrow, and thus has set off the chain of events that lead to obesity.

First, the grandparents show up in town.  Then, they stay at our house.  Then they bring in food and set it in front of me.  Dear god, I've probably eaten my weight in peanuts today.  And cake.  I like the cake part.

So with all this junk food, we also have to factor in regular meals.  Because family is staying over, it's "special time" so that means "special breakfast food".  I'm going to have pancakes towered on my plate for the rest of the week, drowned in syrup and sorghum and butter.  Not that I mind those things once in a while, but talk about your sugar overload.

Oh yeah, and I already ate a half a bag of marshmallows last night because we had a fire going, and I couldn't resist toasting some.

Hence, family equals obesity.

On the upside, with family here, maybe I'll get some new clothes out of the deal. =)

No Name

Apr. 2nd, 2009 | 10:10 am

So Brutes the bulldog was the cutest little thing during dinner last night.  He tried to finish his food, but ended up falling asleep, like literally falling, with his face in the bowl.   He woke up because the other dogs started barking up a storm.  It was kind of adorable, and I can't think of anything else to say.

Chapter 2 part 1

Mar. 20th, 2009 | 01:25 pm

*There wasn't enough time to post the whole thing, so here's a partial.  All characters belong to their rightful owners, i.e. J.K. Rowling and whoever owns the rights to Stargate.*

After a ridiculously long flight, the plane touched down in New York, and Hermione wondered (not for the first time) what she had been thinking when she'd accepted the General's offer to fly her in.  Had she used her infamously sizable intellect, she could have declined and apparated.  Unfortunately, she hadn't, leading to a much greater hassle of shoving Crookshanks into a cat carrier as a carry on and being stuck on a giant, flying death trap.

The mass of passengers started to shift ever-so-slightly forward, like a herd of cattle on their way to the slaughter.  The rather large woman wearing the pink mumu in 27E seemed to have wedged herself most precariously between the seats with her carry on bag.

Good, thought Hermione.  She supposed that was a little vicious, even for her, but she rationalized that after a year under Umbridge in school, anyone wearing that particular shade of pink deserved whatever perverse punishment karma could come up with.

The line continued to inch forward, and hermione clutched the carry on tightly to her.  The large ball of fluff and claws hissed as two small, rambunctious children squeezed through and knocked the carrier.

"It's alright, Crooks," Hermione crooned.

Finally, Hermione and her really smart cat could breathe when they exited the hull of the aircraft.  The brunette checked the clock on the wall. She had two hours until she had to board her next flight.

Elves are pretty

Dec. 28th, 2008 | 09:06 am
mood: silly silly

So I was watching Lord of the Rings today, because it's one of the few epics made like the old-school epics, i.e. Ten Commandments, etc.  I realized how pretty the elves were.  Tolkien had to have a blast making the elves.  They're pretty much perfect, and tall, and gorgeous, and they have a pretty language.

This makes me want to write a LotR crossover of epic proportions in which an elf lives in modern times.

Ooh, or to be really nerdy and backlash on my childhood, I could go all the way back to Sky Dancers and write a crossover with that.  Only with new characters and better dialogue.

That's all I really have to say about that.

Things I'd like to write but have no patience to do so....

Dec. 25th, 2008 | 09:41 pm
mood: sleepy sleepy

An HP/LotR crossover, centered on Hermione.  Here are the catches:
- She doesn't fall in love with Legolas
-She doesn't have a long-lost elven heritage
-She stays her normal, bookwormy, feisty self
-She is not a pureblood!

HP/Stargate (Atlantis or SG-1)
-Hermione centric (because Harry's already done it all)
-Hermione stays herself
-Would like to see witty banter between her and Ronon and McKay.  If there happens to be sparkage, let it lead where it will.

Narnia/LotR Crossover
-Susan centric
-Romance not the main theme
-Main theme of Susan's redemption by aiding the fellowship

Sailor Moon Fanfics on my mind:
Mostly Mercury centric because she's my home girl, but no betrayal fics because they're overdone and poorly done.  Betrayal is always an excuse to turn one of the senshi into a Mary-Sue.  I'd like to include at least all the inners, if not more SM characters
-Stargate Crossover
-Lord of the Rings Crossover
-Heroes Crossover
-Stargate crossover using SM background from Troy Silver Stranton's Sailor Moon V: the Dark Adventures.  Why?  Because it's amazing.

I'm just frustrated that there aren't more well-written secondary character fics out there.  So here's what I'd like to do:  finish some ficage, or at least post some oneshots with established relationships.

NANOWRIMO Chapter 1

Nov. 5th, 2008 | 10:08 am
mood: accomplished accomplished

Up, Up, and Away!
Chapter 1:  In Which Hermione is Asked to Fly
Disclaimer:  Stargate Atlantis and Harry Potter do not belong to me.  They belong to their respective creators and companies who own them.
Spoilers and differentiations:  Spoilers to season 2 of SGA, and we're ignoring the seventh book and assuming that Snape ws cleared of charges against him due to Dumbledore's death.

*************************************************
It was an early morning, even for Hermione Granger, Research and Development of new Arithmancy uses and girl genius extraordinaire.  The loud, angry screeching of her muggle alarm clock read 4:00 am.  She hit the thing to shut it up several times before reaching the proper button, rolled over, and dozed.

Ten minutes later, the entire building heard a shout from flat 4D

"Bloody Hell!"

A frizzy head popped up from under the mountain of covers, realizing why the alarm had been set for so early.  Hermione Granger had a plane to catch to America.

She scurried out of bed, brushed her teeth, hopped in the shower and hopped out again ten minutes later, ran some frizz lessening serum through her hair before placing a drying charm on her head, and ran back into her bedroom to where two suitcases lay open and half-packed.

In there, she quickly threw on some clothes, blouse, waistcoat, and a long skirt with slim boots, and everything else she could into one bag, and in its twin began shrinking everything as she packed it, so a half hour later, she had condensed the contents of her flat into a single bag, aside from the bed and the kitchen sink.

It was five in the morning when she called for her cab, and waited outside her flat building in the light drizzle that she was born into nearly twenty four years prior. While she waited, being half asleep still without her morning tea, she fell into deep thought.  She'd miss Harry and Ron, and all the Weasleys, but, well, people moved on.  Ron had married Lavender after Hermione went away to univeristy and her internship with Professor Snape.  Harry married Ginny just out of Hogwarts, which greatly vexed her about the younger girl.  She had no way of providing for herself should Harry, an auror, become injured or die in the line of duty.  Of course, she had kept her mouth shut on that point, knowing that Ginny's dream had always been to marry Harry.

She shook her head to clear away the gloomy thoughts just in time, for when the yellow cab pulled up, it was fifteen after five, leaving her very little time to get to the airport and her bags checked.  She had tought about apparating earlier that week when she recieved notice that the British and American Governments arranged her flight into Washington DC and later Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She hoped she knew what she was getting into with Deep Space Radar Telemetry.

Heroes

Aug. 21st, 2008 | 09:55 pm
location: in my happy place
mood: nerdy nerdy
music: Guster

This past week, all of my rather unconnected classes seem to have discussed the same topic: heroes.  What are heroes anyway?

Historically, they are the cultural arc type for the morals and beliefs in any given society.  Right now, my British Literature class is dissecting Beowulf, and what made him the Germanic Barbarian hero, and later a more Christian influenced hero type.

Actually, if you think about it, Beowulf was the original Superman.  He was massive, noble looking, and had a grip of thirty men.  He also slew evil monsters on a regular basis, and was loyal to his fellow comitatus, his fellow warrior leaders.  I like my new word, by the way.  I learned something in school, WOOT!

Of course, Superman never ripped the arm of his enemy off at the shoulder and hung it in the hall for all to gawk at.  Superman is like the Beowulf who, in his old age, slew a dragon and died for it, a more Christian, forgiving version of an ass-kicking super hero who could basically do no wrong.

When I find more interesting stuff, I'll add. =)
